I enjoy making Jade rings. A lot of my commissioned rings are for weddings but I also make special carved Jade rings for clients that want a particular design/idea made.
Here are some questions I often get asked about commissioning a Jade ring
What does a Jade ring cost?
The cost breaks down into what it is made out of and the size.
I charge $450NZ for a Pounamu band (NZ Jade) sizes up to US 9.5 /UK/NZ/AUS “S” and $500 for sizes 10 / T and larger.
– Jades from overseas
I charge $400NZ for a Jade band sizes up to 9.5 /S and $450 for sizes 10 /T and larger.
I normally quote for carved rings on an individual basis, if you email me your idea I would be happy to give you a price to have it made.
What kind of Jade do you use? I use a variety of Jades from different countries for my work. I only use fine grained Jade for my rings and bracelets. This limits the Jades I can use but results in beautiful rings that are enjoyable to make and stronger for wear. I use both Pounamu and Jades from overseas for my rings.
How do I get my ring sized?
Normally customers either let me know their sizes (by asking at a jewellers) or I can send them a set of finger sizers.
How long will it take? This depends on my current workload. If you are overseas I would leave at least 4 weeks.
How strong are Jade rings?
I believe if a few basic factors are looked after Jade rings are strong and good for daily wear –
(1) They are made out of Jade with a fine grain
(2) The ring is designed for strength
(3) Sensible use. Jade is tough but has no flex in it like metal so doesn’t like impact. If you are doing manual labour like chopping wood or hammering I would take it off.
Do you send your rings internationally? Yes I’m happy to and often do send Jade rings internationally.
Can you carve me a ring in a particular shape or design? Yes I can carve Jade rings in a variety of shapes and designs. If you email me with your idea I can give you a quote and time frame.
Alongside my carving work I’m also a sculptor. I work for jewellers, model/toy businesses as well as make my own bronze sculptors. These skills allow me to sculpt a wide range of ring designs and get them cast in your favorite metal. Take a look at my sculpting site below or see the metal rings I have in the SHOP, get inspired and get in touch to talk about an idea.
