Flower Jade Bracelet
This is a really interesting Jade. It was described as a Wyoming flower Jade and looks related to a snowflake type Jade.
I got a nice clean (no fractures) block the perfect size for a bracelet. I’m pretty picky about the Jades I’ll use for rings and bracelets, I won’t use anything that has fractures or a chippy grain but this block was surprisingly fine and tight grained.
I cut a strip off the side of this block the same width and grain orientation as the bracelet would be and did a strength test on it. I was surprised how strong it was, It was about 4in long and quite thin but I couldn’t break it. This gave me the confidence to go ahead.
The next challenge was the design. Just like camouflage, the mixed colours would break up the outline of any shapes I carved. I decided to leave the top plain to display the interesting grain and frame this with some nice grooves that come from bold flutes/pattern on the sides.
I enjoyed having a different design challenge after the translucent olive bracelet, and am pleased with the result.
Thanks to the grain, it was v hard to take a photo that clearly shows the design.
