I carved this pekapeka / bat out of beautiful lavender agate (from Canterbury)
It is an amazing soft lavender that glows a warm apricot colour in the thinner bits. When you hold it up to the sun you can see its “bubbly” internal structure. There are a few places where I’ve left the stones natural texture – a few spots on the front and a small dip on the back.
The design is a mix of my pekapeka and faceted toki carvings. They flow well together with the toki forming the bats closed wings.
